Choraku-Ji temple is in the rice terrace. The night of the moon, the
moon rising from Mt.Kagamiyama is reflected in the rice terraces and the
Chikuma river, making it a fantastic night view. From the beauty of this
moon, since ancient times "Tagoto no Tsuki" is called.
In the precincts there are lots of stone monuments of Matsuo Basho who
were impressed by the beauty of the moon. Also, a stone called "Obaishi"
is next to the Kannon-dō. In the legend of Obasute, this stone is
told that, "the old woman who was discarded grieved and became a stone."
